About Me
I am fascinated by both the beauty and the power of nature. My photography is dedicated to raising awareness about the splendor and fragility of natural objects and places. I endeavor to capture the interface between humans and the natural world. Although we live in an age of human-transformed landscapes, many of our interactions with nature can be quite beautiful, and ultimately our presence will be transient.
Through photography, I strive to share the phenomenal places I have been with others. My travels have opened my eyes to our species' interactions with the rest of our planet, and strongly influenced my career choice. I was born and raised in Colorado, but Cincinnati has been my home for the past 11 years. In between, I have lived in Australia, California, Canada, Germany, Hawaii, New York, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and my husband and I currently spend our summers in northern Michigan. I have also been fortunate to spend time in very remote places, including Namibia, northern India, central Alaska, and Madagascar. When I'm not taking photographs, I am a Professor of Geosciences and Anthropology at the University of Cincinnati.
I have practiced art since I was a little girl. I studied visual arts at Interlochen Arts Camp from 1994-1998, and have experimented in a variety of media, including book arts, weaving, drawing, painting, metalsmithing, and photography.
